Bad News: As a hurricane devastated his state, Louisiana’s governor, who is known as MAGA, had a “weeklong jaunt” to Europe…
According to a recent report, Republican Governor Jeff Landry was vacationing in Europe when Hurricane Beryl made landfall as a tropical storm in Louisiana.

The Advocate, a daily published in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said on Friday that Landry and his wife Sharon were traveling through Croatia, Greece, and Italy for a “weeklong jaunt” when Beryl struck Louisiana, causing thousands of people to lose power, destroying homes and businesses, and killing one person. Beryl, which made landfall in southeast Texas earlier this month as a category 1 hurricane, later advanced eastward into the Bayou State, causing wind gusts exceeding sixty miles per hour and coastal flooding. When a tree fell on a Benton, Louisiana home, the 31-year-old woman was killed.
“Every governor I know of made it their business to stay in the area during hurricane season, particularly when one occurred in the Gulf,” Terry Ryder represented three previous governors of Louisiana.
the Advocate of old. “They were always totally occupied prior to, during, and following a storm or a significant storm threat. If they had been outside the nation, you would not have seen them.
Landry apparently informed Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser (R) ahead of time of his planned vacation to Europe, but he noticeably refrained from announcing it to the public. Nungesser said to the Advocate that he has not “slept during a hurricane since Katrina,” referring to the hurricane that struck Louisiana in 2005 and claimed the lives of over 1,500 people. He said that considering the hurricane’s impending arrival from the Caribbean, Landry had to make a “tough call” about postponing his vacation.
“It was not much of a vacation as he sprang into action with multiple calls a day with the FEMA director, local leaders, GOHSEP [Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness], & State Police in order to monitor Hurricane Beryl,” stated Kate Kelly, Landry’s press secretary, in a text message to the publication. “He issued a disaster declaration for affected parishes on July 9 and requested a Federal Emergency Disaster Declaration on July 10,” Kelly wrote. “It’s disingenuous for this paper to try and imply otherwise — solely for clickbait.”
