Recent Update at 2:00 PM: Tropical Storm Debby is predicted to intensify quickly…

Tampa, Florida (WWSB) – Tropical Storm Debby continues to have maximum sustained winds of 65 mph with stronger gusts as of Sunday at 2:00 p.m. By tonight, Debby should be a hurricane, and it will only get stronger until it makes landfall in the Florida Big Bend region.
For the whole region, a tropical storm warning is still in effect, and from Longboat Key northward, a storm surge warning of three to five feet is anticipated. For areas south of Longboat Key, a storm surge watch is in place.
Winds will shift to the southwest as Tropical Storm Debby moves northward, resulting in an onshore flow that will intensify coastal flooding and storm surge.
A Tornado Watch is also in effect, as tornadoes are possible in rain bands that will continue to move through the area.
