The National Hurricane Center (NHC) issues a “life-threatening” storm surge warning as Debby is predicted to bring 6 to 12 inches of rain, with a maximum of 18 inches, to parts of northern Florida. From the center of Longboat Key to Aripeka, Florida, encompassing Tampa Bay, a storm surge warning was issued. Rising water coming inland from the sea is known as a storm surge.
As Tropical Storm Debby gets closer to Florida’s Big Bend, it is intensifying quickly. A “major flood threat” is issued for the southeastern United States, which includes portions of Georgia and South Carolina, by the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
According to the NHC, Debby was located approximately 125 miles west-southwest of Tampa and had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph as of 11 a.m. ET. Tonight, Debby is predicted to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane.
