Amid the historic kicker extension, Evan McPherson delves into contract extension discussions.

Bengals' Evan McPherson spent part of offseason promoting good cause

Cincinnati — After being picked by the Bengals in 2021, Evan McPherson has established himself as one of the top young kickers in the NFL. After Kansas City signed Harrison Butker the highest-paid kicker in league history, the cost to keep him around might have gone up.

Following Butker’s signing of a four-year, $25.6 million ($17.1 million guaranteed) extension this week, McPherson talked about everything.

Coming into the final year of his contract, McPherson remarked of his discussions, “I don’t know, he’s proven himself a little more, but he’s been around the block a little longer than I have.” “We’re just pounding everything out, I’m not sure what we can get, but we’re still at that point.

McPherson continues to maintain the composed demeanor of a kicker.

McPherson said, “I hope, I guess, I don’t really hope, because if it happens, it happens.” “If it’s not, it’s not. However, I am unable to affirm or refute what will conspire. Sincerely, I’m not sure, so worrying about it would just be unnecessary tension. Because if I do my part as I should at the end of the day, it will get done. And I think so too. And I believe that if I simply keep playing and keeping my head down, something will ultimately surface.”

“Money Mac” has a career field goal percentage of 83.9% and a 21-of-28 record from 50 yards and beyond going into this season.
