Tornado Alley: Eastward Shift Threatens Midwest Residents

Minneapolis, Minnesota Teams from the National Weather Service are assessing the damage caused by Monday night’s storms, which included at least 10 tornado warnings, across southern Minnesota and some areas of Wisconsin.

Four tornadoes have been confirmed by crews thus far: those in St. James, Janesville, Otisco, and Twin Lakes/Emmons.

Teams from the National Weather Service were dispatched to the counties of Watonwan, Blue Earth, and Freeborn.

A brief tornado was detected by several experienced storm spotters north of St. James in Watonwan County at around 5:30 p.m. There were also reports of numerous trees and downed power lines.

Shortly after 6 p.m., in Blue Earth County by Mankato, there was a funnel cloud reported and then a larger tornado reported just south of Janesville.

The final storm damage survey is being done in Emmons in Freeborn County. At about 8 p.m., there were multiple storm spotter reports of a tornado on the ground and several downed trees north of Emmons.
