In light of Hurricane Debby, a number of military installations in the Southeast of the country declared aircraft evacuations, temporary facility closures, and operational modifications.

In addition to the National Guard being activated in Georgia before Hurricane Debby made landfall on Monday morning, Military.com reports that National Guard members from Florida, South Carolina, and Kentucky were prepared to assist with hurricane relief efforts in Florida. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for strong winds and heavy rain in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, despite the hurricane’s downgrade to a tropical storm as it started to move north on Monday afternoon, according to the outlet.

 

Governor Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) issued an executive order on Monday permitting the deployment of up to 2,000 members of the Georgia National Guard in the event of Hurricane Debby. A Pentagon spokesman, Lt. Col. Devin Robinson, verified that 2,673 Guardsmen from the Florida National Guard were called to support relief efforts. Robinson also indicated that Kentucky was sending two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and twelve National Guard members to Florida, while South Carolina was sending seventy soldiers and several vehicles.
