In 2024, the ACC conference has an excellent opportunity of shocking people. In addition to the perennial national talk-leaders, the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles, there are a number of programs that appear to be rising: NC State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and SMU.

It’s likely that a few of the aforementioned clubs will pull off an upset or two if the league does well overall. Week two’s matchup between the NC State Wolfpack and Tennessee Volunteers should produce one of these upsets, with the Wolfpack handily defeating the Vols to start the season.

The NC State Wolfpack will defeat the Tennessee Volunteers for the following five reasons.

Anticipate a divided crowd because this is a neutral site game that takes place approximately halfway between the two colleges. This usually has no effect on either team, but it does remove the possibility of an unfavorable crowd effect, which might make things far more intense for opponents on Rocky Top than they would be in Raleigh.

2. The Wolfpack’s offensive weapons are underappreciated

In college football, Kevin “KC” Concepcion is a name that people will soon recognize, and this contest will help elevate the sophomore wide receiver. Concepcion led the Wolfpack in receiving as a true freshman the previous season, hauling in 71 passes for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns.

With 71 catches, Concepcion set a school record for the sixth-best single-season total ever.
