Category 2 hurricanes are predicted to develop into our next named storm.

On Monday, potential Tropical Cyclone Five began to move quickly—26 mph—in the direction of the warmer seas of the Caribbean, approaching the Greater Antilles.

WPTV First Alert Weather tropics forecast, morning of Aug. 12, 2024

It is not predicted to develop into a tropical storm until Tuesday since it is still incredibly unorganized. Ernesto is the next name on the list.

The Leeward Islands are already experiencing strong gusts and heavy rains as a result of it. As Ernesto, our next named storm, is expected to develop from this system, tropical storm warnings are still in effect for the Leeward Islands.

On Tuesday, this system will pass over the Leeward Islands and begin to move north. The Sunshine State and the East Coast will be well shielded from this tropical cyclone by a cold front and a high-pressure system.
