Bermuda On Alert As Powerful Hurricane Ernesto Continues On Path Toward  Island

Hurricane alert for BermudaPRúNCIDO, Puerto Rico Hurricane Ernesto, which had left hundreds of thousands of people without power or water in Puerto Rico, intensified into a Category 2 storm on Thursday night as it made its way into Bermuda. As intense heat engulfed the US territory, worries about people’s health arose.

Bermuda was under a hurricane warning, as Ernesto was predicted to pass over or close to the island on Saturday.

By late Thursday, the storm’s center was located roughly 410 miles southwest of Bermuda. With its highest sustained winds reaching 100 mph, the storm was traveling at 14 mph in open waters in a north-northeast direction.

“It is crucial that every resident makes use of this time to get ready, and I cannot emphasize this enough. We have previously witnessed the terrible consequences

of complacency,” said National Security Minister Michael Weeks.
