NOAA revises forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season in 2024

According to an updated forecast by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Atlantic Basin is expected to see a very active hurricane season in 2024.
With near-record sea surface temperatures, we’re still on course to have the highest NOAA forecast ever.

Tropical activity is limited in July due to the African Saharan dust, but it will build up in mid-August through mid-September. One of the primary causes is the upcoming weakening of the Saharan air layer, which will enable tropical activity to flourish in the upcoming weeks under conditions of extremely warm sea surface temperatures, an abundance of moisture, and minimal vertical wind shear.
It is now predicted that Hurricane Ernesto will pass across Bermuda as a Category 2 or 3 storm throughout the next 48 hours.

Because Ernesto is still offshore, coastal towns in the tristate will see strong waves, big surges, and windy conditions.
