Beijing issued warnings for torrents and heavy rain.
Beijing predicted substantial precipitation over the weekend and issued blue alerts for rainstorms and mountain torrents on Friday afternoon.
According to the city’s meteorological department, Beijing could see severe rains from Saturday afternoon to Sunday that might total more than 100 millimeters in some regions. This could result in secondary disasters including floods, debris flows, and landslides in hilly areas.
Zhai Liang, the chief forecaster for the service, warned of downpours and exceptionally heavy rainfall in some locations, citing the combined impact of warm and humid airflows over subtropical high and upper troughs as the main cause of the latest rains.
