Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr. out for season with torn ACL

In the eighth inning, Brandon Marsh delivered a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to give the Philadelphia Phillies the lead and a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

With five games remaining in the regular season between the two teams, this win increased the Phillies’ advantage over the Braves in the National League East to seven games.

Starter Aaron Nola of the Phillies stated, “Every victory is a significant victory.” “With those guys over there, no lead (in the division) is a big enough lead right now.” They always put on a great show for us. It presents a constant obstacle.

After starting with a double, Weston Wilson went 2 for 3 and scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

Nola pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out five.

“I tried to keep it at two as best I could and give the guys a chance to score some runs,” Nola said. “It was a good win.”

Matt Strahm (5-2) got the win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

At the end of the game, Carlos Estévez got his 22nd save by leaving runners on second and third.

Max Fried of Atlanta had his best outing in four starts since coming off the injured list following the All-Star break. In seven innings, he struck out four and gave up two runs on four hits. Joe Jiménez (1–5) accepted the defeat.

Despite having just six baserunners in the game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson was happy with his team’s efficiency, noting they scored three runs.

Thomson declared, “We manufactured all three of our runs.” Wilson hits a double to start the eighth inning. (Bryson) Stott advances with a deep fly ball when he pinch hits. Marsh gets in with a big fly ball after a pinch hit. That’s how playoff games are won.
