Nick Saban outlines Kalen DeBoer’s first-year experiences at Alabama.
Nick Saban provided some insight into what new Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer might anticipate in Tuscaloosa when he succeeds Saban this autumn during Saturday’s “College GameDay” coverage from Dublin, Ireland. After leading the Washington Huskies to the College Football Playoff National Championship the previous season, DeBoer takes over an Alabama team that is led by a mix of returning players with experience and newcomers hoping to carry on the winning tradition of the program this autumn.

In response to Kirk Herbstreit’s question on what DeBoer could anticipate from his first season as head coach in Tuscaloosa, Nick Saban said that the team still adheres to the same culture he instilled in it and that the Tide might pose a threat if the defense keeps getting better. “Well, all I can tell you is that I went and watched last week’s scrimmage on Saturday,” Saban responded. “You know, that squad still operates under the same culture that existed under my coaching tenure. They had a tough game when they played. They gave their game their all. They did a good job executing. They have sound discipline. Thus, Kalen [DeBoer] has performed admirably. Due to the high number of players who transferred, he had to replace several players.
