Danny White, the vice chancellor and director of athletics for Tennessee, revealed today that Tony Vitello, the National Coach of the Year, has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him at Rocky Top until June 30, 2029.

“Tony and his staff have developed the country’s top baseball program, and we are excited to announce this long-term extension to keep Tony on Rocky Top,” White stated. “As a department of athletics, we want to set the bar for collegiate sports, and Tony has built a baseball program that is unmatched in the industry. The passion he has brought to Vol Nation has been amazing to watch, and his on-field accomplishments in the top conference in the country are unparalleled.”
Numerous publications recognized Vitello the National Coach of the Year after he guided Tennessee to its first national championship in the program’s history in 2024.
“With the new hires we made this summer, we wanted to take care in solidifying what we knew was inevitable, that being our athletic department and coaching staff wanting to be teammates for a long time,” Vitello stated.
When it comes to resources, their dedication to our personnel, and the stadium project, our staff and program are certain that our administration has a greater stake in our sport than any other place in the nation. Ultimately, we are aware that our wonderful Vol fans are the source of these assets, and we are eager to keep working hard to make them feel honored to be a member of Vol Nation.”
The Volunteers achieved a historic 2024 season, winning both the SEC regular season and tournament titles under Vitello’s direction, setting a record for victories in a single season with 60.
UT created history by becoming the first team in the SEC and only the fourth league to win 60 games in a single season.
