Dolphins’ projected 53-man roster as cutdown day approaches

Dolphins 2024 schedule: Game-by-game predictions for Miami

After the third and final weekend of preseason football in the NFL, clubs will start cutting players in order to get ready for the 2024 season to begin. At a number of important spots, the Miami Dolphins will need to make difficult choices.

The Dolphins added Odell Beckham Jr. and replaced Christian Wilkins, among other significant moves on both sides of the ball. Positive or negative, these adjustments will influence the Dolphins’ choices when it comes time to make roster cuts.

Preseason games provide position coaches and general managers with footage to distinguish players when things may be closer to equal. Training camp roster decisions typically carry more weight.

The coaches also take note of a player’s performance when playing against other teams. The coaching staff will not have an easy time with this year’s final 53.

Quarterbacks (2)
Tagovailoa Tua
Michael White
In an attempt to use Skylar Thompson as a backup quarterback, the Dolphins plan to move him up to the practice squad. Thompson and White haven’t demonstrated much throughout camp, so White gets the nod because he has a little bit more experience.

Running backs: (5) Jaylen Wright, Raheem Mostert

De’Von Achane
Wilson Jeff
Alec Ingold
What kind of injuries Chris Brooks sustained is unknown. Reportedly, he is following the concussion protocol. If so, he might replace Wilson in that position. There is undoubtedly a two-person competition for the last roster place. Wilson might be released by the Dolphins to travel to his own destination, but considering his friendship with Mike McDaniel, they might try to deal him first.

Broad receivers (6)
Hill Tyreek
Jaylen Waddle
Erik Malik Ezukanma Berrios, Washington Braxton
Odell Beckham Jr.
