Kalen DeBoer, the new head coach of Alabama, began his tenure with a perfect performance in Week 1, as the Crimson Tide won 63-0. DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, however, are under a lot of pressure to succeed Nick Saban, the famed coach, in Year 1. When asked if DeBoer would get off easy this season because of the pressure, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum replied in the negative. Finebaum declared that there would be no mercy for him and that Alabama’s season would be viewed as a “bust” if they failed to qualify for the postseason. “How about zero and zero?” asked Finebaum. “He’s at Alabama, which is why he doesn’t receive a grace period. If he doesn’t, they won’t offer him an exception.

Finebaum said that DeBoer is aware of the risks involved. If not, he would not have accepted the position to carry on Saban’s legacy. Finebaum believes that he will only be let off if Alabama is not the national champion. For the Tide, it would be a disappointing season absent from the playoffs.
