Following a crushing defeat, the coach of Western Kentucky spoke about TJ Finley, Alabama, and other topics.
Football head coach Tyson Helton told AL.com in the days before Western Kentucky’s Saturday game against Alabama that he was hopeful a string of little wins would build up for the Hilltoppers. In Kalen DeBoer’s debut, the Crimson Tide easily defeated the Brown Bears 63-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
“I think we did some good things at times,” Helton remarked in the aftermath. “I thought our first-half ball movement was rather good. Naturally, even for the interceptions, the turnovers are costly. As everyone knows, the first half has seen far too many explosive plays from our defense. In the second half, the defense calmed down a little bit and began to rediscover their offensive rhythm; we were unable to capitalize.
The Crimson Tide scored 600 offensive yards. Despite only throwing nine passes, Jalen Milroe completed seven of them for 200 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for an additional 79 yards and two scores.
Only 145 yards of offense were produced by WKU. Before Hilltoppers quarterback TJ Finley threw two interceptions, both to Keon Sabb, Caden Veltkamp played the second half behind center.
Helton remarked, “I need to watch the movie. TJ had the first one.” “I have not witnessed it. It was almost forced into the news there. I’m not sure if TJ was at fault for the second one down there in the red zone.
