Nick Saban’s message was conveyed to the Alabama football team by Kalen DeBoer prior to the season’s first game…
Under Kalen DeBoer’s direction, the Alabama football program has formally entered a new era. In Tuscaloosa, the former head coach of the Washington Huskies was brought in to take Nick Saban’s place. No pressure, then, or anything. It doesn’t appear like the head coach is feeling it, though, based on how DeBoer has led the team thus far. Before Saturday’s season-opening victory over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Saban left a note for his former players with DeBoer, demonstrating his support for the transition as much as he can.
Following their Thursday practice, DeBoer addressed the players, saying, “He just wanted you guys to know how much he cares about you, how much he loves you, and he can’t wait to watch you play this year,” according to ESPN.
The ESPN feature on the new head coach’s first game week highlights Saban’s apparent support for DeBoer. Because they have supported each other ever since the former Huskies coach took over in Tuscaloosa, the two coaches have developed a close bond. Although Saban is aware that DeBoer is now in charge of this program, his long tenure as head coach of the Crimson Tide and his knowledge of all things Alabama football have to offer have been invaluable to his successor. How will the future of Crimson Tide appear now that this new regime’s first victory has passed?
