Reasons why, despite Alabama’s defense shutting out WKU, Kane Wommack was not happy

Despite winning their first game under Kalen DeBoer, Alabama football’s assistant coach was not happy.
Though Kane Wommack believes more should have been done, the Crimson Tide defense produced a sack, a few quarterback pressures, a few pass breakups, and two interceptions. Alabama defeated Western Kentucky 63 points to 64 at Bryant-Denny Stadium, although none of those scores came from defense. Although Wommack acknowledged the defensive players’ effort in flying to the football, his expectations remain the same. The 37-year-old thought that more could have been produced last week and expressed a desire for turnovers.
Wommack stated on Monday, “I did not think we capitalized on takeaways as a defense, but the two takeaways we had early were positives.”
“I thought we had numerous possibilities to score on defense, but we didn’t take advantage of them. We had chances in the backfield as well. Sacks are fantastic, but even better are sacks that result in fumbles, as they allow our offense to regain possession of the ball. The lads have been put to the test on those fronts. We do not, in my opinion, meet the bar for what we can accomplish on defense. I’m hoping to see our guys intentionally take the ball away as a response.
