How field renaming ceremonies will celebrate Nick Saban in honor of Alabama football
Additional information about Saturday’s Nick Saban memorial events at Bryant-Denny Stadium was released by Alabama football. The stadium where he spent 17 seasons coaching will now be known as Saban Field.
A press statement states that the ceremony’s opening segment will happen on the Walk of Champions outside BDS at approximately 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. Before the new stadium signage is unveiled, Saban, UA President Stuart Bellm, and athletics director Greg Byrne will all speak.
Saban and his family will enter the stadium following the ceremony. A second ceremony is scheduled for halftime.
That one will take place following the Million Dollar Band’s set. On the field, Saban will get recognition.
The field will be named in honor of the coach, and it will be an amazing night, as Kalen DeBoer, Saban’s successor, stated earlier this week. That truly is something exceptional. It’s one of those situations when you know what’s going to happen and you’re going to have a part in it, but the team is actually not able to participate in the ceremony. We’re presumably in the middle of doing some prep work, like eating before the game.
However, I am aware of how much coach Saban will value receiving that recognition for everything he has accomplished here. I’m confident that we hold it in high regard and will do all in our power to preserve our field and make it our home moving forward, just as we have done for the past 17 years that he has been here.
In their first game without head coach Nick Saban, Alabama defeated Western Kentucky 63-0. This Saturday, they take on South Florida. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT, and ESPN will broadcast the match.
