After a solid defensive showing against WKU, Kane Wommack challenges the rookies from Alabama.

Kane Wommack, an Alabama defensive end, stated of the younger players, “They cannot stay the same.” “They need to keep improving their performance and level of concentration.”
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama: Zabien Brown saw action in his very first collegiate football game quite quickly.
The 5-star rookie from California, Brown, started the game last Saturday at cornerback for Alabama in their 63-0 victory over Western Kentucky. He found himself covering the intended target, a 6-foot-4 tight end, on the third play of the game (Brown is listed at 6-foot).
Brown offered firm coverage as WKU quarterback TJ Finley threw the ball a bit too high, resulting in an incomplete pass. Pro Football Focus reports that he was only targeted twice during the game, yet he allowed no completions.
Defense coordinator Kane Wommack stated on Monday that “he was well-deserving to be able to go out there as one of the first eleven to represent our defense.” “Very proud of the work he’s put in.”
Brown played in the Tide’s season opener along with a number of other freshmen. According to PFF, he played the most defensive snaps of any rookie with 35, but all of them were excellent plays that helped Alabama win its first shutout since 2022 and hand WKU its first shutout loss since 2012.
Safety Keon Sabb stated, “They went out and made plays from the beginning.” Being able to go out there, feel at ease, and still make plays is incredible to witness. They did not exaggerate the occasion.”
Apart from Brown, Qua Russaw made his Wolf debut with two pressures and four tackles. In 30 snaps off the bench, Red Morgan recorded a tackle for loss, a blocked pass, and a pass interference call. Before the first quarter concluded, two more 5-star freshman corners, Jaylen Mbakwe and Zay Mincey, checked into the game.
