Breaking News: Kirk Herbstreit and Nick Saban Agree on Which SEC Team to “Look Out In 2024

The Crimson Tide supporters probably didn’t anticipate hearing former head coach Nick Saban extolling the virtues of Alabama’s fiercest SEC opponent, Auburn, but that’s precisely what transpired on Saturday morning during “College GameDay.” Kirk Herbstreit and Nick Saban agreed that Auburn is the one team that has the potential to surprise the SEC this season when talking about the league’s makeup. “There’s going to be a lot of Alabama folks who won’t like what I’m about to say here, but I think Hugh Freeze is going to do an outstanding job at Auburn.
Herbstreit focused on the game-breaking moments displayed by Auburn’s four receivers, Malcolm Simmons, Perry Thompson, Cam Coleman, and Penn State transfer Keandre Lambert-Smith, during the team’s 628 yards of total offense against Alabama A&M last week. “The offense now that’s going to be decided with Hugh Freeze as a play-caller…he’s got a veteran quarterback in Payton Thorne, who can run just enough in that offense,” Herbstreit continued. There are four [good] receivers in the group. I believe Payton Thorne has a potential to have a great year this year, and I think Auburn is a surprise team in the entire SEC.” In Week 1, Thorne passed for 322 yards and four touchdowns, and Simmons
logged three receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown, Thompson added two catches for 82 yards and a score, Coleman had two catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Lambert-Smith caught three passes for 80 yards and two TDs. All four WRs had a catch of 40 yards or longer.
