Early in the fourth quarter of Alabama football’s 42-16 victory over South Florida, wide receiver Cole Adams departed the game. Adams did not return to competition after appearing to suffer a serious injury to his right arm while falling to the ground.

Regarding the nature of Adams’ injury, head coach Kalen DeBoer of the Crimson Tide had nothing conclusive to say following the game.

DeBoer stated, “He just had an arm injury.” We’ll have to observe just where that is at, in my opinion. The whole breadth of that. When he got up, I realized it was his arm even though I may not have seen it before; I had assumed it was something on his lower thigh. However, we’ll monitor his progress throughout the week.

Starting with the first game of the season against Western Kentucky, Adams had assumed the role of punt returner for the Crimson Tide. He was getting reps at wide receiver as well.

With one reception for five yards, the redshirt freshman wrapped out the contest on Saturday. Against USF, the Crimson Tide trailed late in the game after having struggled for much of the game.

The following week, Alabama and Wisconsin will play at Camp Randall. The most important concern is who would replace Adams as the Crimson Tide’s punt returner if he is unable to play.

Alabama’s Jaylen Mbakwe made a play while fielding one punt on Saturday. In a pivotal moment late in the game, the freshman defensive back returned the kick 28 yards, laying the stage for the Tide to win.
