Lane Kiffin explains his decision not to accept the Auburn job.
Because of Kiffin’s daughter Landry, it almost happened, according to a recent ESPN report. According to Chris Low, “Kiffin was leaning toward taking the Auburn job” back in 2022, had it not been for a question his daughter asked him. “You left me one time for another job when you went to Alabama, and now I’m here with you and you’re going to do it again?” she asked, according to the report.
Before entering her final year of high school, Kiffin’s eldest daughter moved out of Los Angeles to live with her father. She didn’t want him to leave Ole Miss now. Furthermore, according to Low, Landry Kiffin and her pals created a musical slideshow of them at Ole Miss in an attempt to convince him to stay.
This little excerpt is part of a longer essay that highlights the Ole Miss coach’s development both on and off the field as the Rebels get ready for a season full of high expectations.
It was only lately that Kiffin began his coaching career. The Nick Saban/Kiffin friendship was emphasized in a chapter of “The Price: What It Takes to Win In College Football’s Era of Chaos,” which was released just last week. The chapter was dedicated to sports agent Jimmy Sexton.
Naturally, Saban refuted saying such on a weekend ESPN show.
Following several weeks of public flirtation with Auburn and shortly after the Tigers hired Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss and Kiffin agreed to a nine million dollar annual agreement in November 2022. In December, Kiffin, the former offensive coordinator for Alabama, was granted an extension for a third consecutive year.
