Wilkin Formby, an Alabama football tackle, struggled in his game against South Florida. According to Pro Football Focus advanced analytics, the right-hand starting for the Crimson Tide was called for three holding penalties and gave up four quarterback pressures.

Nick Sheridan, the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, was questioned on Monday regarding Formby’s performance, particularly the holding calls.

Sheridan remarked, “I think that during all those moments, you’re just trying to teach and help a player improve.” “I believe Wilkin aspires to be the best version of himself and cares deeply.” And in some of those instances, I believe it relates back to what we discussed—and it’s not just directed at him; it’s directed at the group as a whole. You can get out of position if your fundamentals are off or if your eyes aren’t positioned correctly.
I believe that it comes down to footwork, eye discipline, and other basic things to make sure that you’re in the correct place to make the play the right way, inside the rules, not just for him particularly but for our entire group.

There were other problems with Alabama’s offensive line besides Formby. Kadyn Proctor’s shoulder issue kept him out of the USF game.

In his absence, Geno VanDeMark filled the void at left guard, forcing Tyler Booker to go over to tackle. Elijah Pritchett played late during Alabama’s most productive offensive run, but the Tide attempted to rest him against the Bulls due to a minor ailment.

Four holding penalties, an illegal backward block, and two false starts were assessed to Alabama before the end of the game. In addition to two touchdowns that were called back, the offensive line lost UA 70 yards in penalties overall.
Head coach of the Crimson Tide, Kalen DeBoer, stated on Monday that the line needed to understand how close the game was being called and make adjustments accordingly. He claimed that having the option to watch movies on the sidelines in between drives can be beneficial.
