Thoughts from an Alabama supporter before Wisconsin week in 2024…

During my work break on Monday morning, I managed to watch a little of the coaches’ news conference prior to the Wisconsin game. The fact that defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan each get their own press conference still seems really weird. I can only think of how much fun it would have been to see Jeremy Pruitt or Lane Kiffin hold a weekly press conference. The current Alabama staff is incredibly much more hospitable and open, and I’m wondering now if this is also the case for other programs.
Given that the Tide rarely travel to Big 10 Country, Alabama’s road game trip to Madison could be fascinating.
It was on our 2011 trip to Happy Valley that we witnessed this. In my opinion, it’s great that supporters may visit venues they otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to see, and that Tuscaloosa supporters can reciprocate when these teams visit. Although I enjoyed the season’s opening neutral site games against a worthy opponent, there’s something very fulfilling about a home and home series. In the upcoming years, Florida State, Ohio State, and West Virginia, to mention a few, will all have intriguing home and home series.
In terms of my concluding views on the South Florida game, I’m still in shock at how late the coaching staff decided to remove Wilkin Formby from the contest. As tough as the first half was, you would have thought Elijah Pritchett would have started the second half. I know he wasn’t entirely healthy. When he entered the game in the fourth quarter, it was incredible how well the offense was able to execute. Whether Kadyn Proctor plays or not, I anticipate a much cleaner offensive line performance versus Wisconsin on Saturday.
Although I was rather pleased with Justin Jefferson’s play against USF, I was disappointed that the targeting penalty would keep him out of the first half this week.
