Jalen Milroe and Parker Brailsford of Alabama Split the Blame for the Mishandled Catch

Alabama's Jalen Milroe and Parker Brailsford Share Responsibility on Fumbled Snap

Alabama still needs to address its offensive shortcomings after the Crimson Tide bungled the snap in the shadow of the goal line.

The Crimson Tide only managed 393 yards of offense in the game, but only 14 points and 189 yards in the first three quarters of play, thanks to the Bulls’ relentless pressure on the Alabama attack. The Crimson Tide made one more crucial error while trying to build their lead, a botched snap in the shadow of the endzone, before blowing up in the fourth quarter.

“I’m responsible for everything. Jalen Milroe remarked immediately following the game, “I have to do better behind center. “I need to communicate more effectively from the start, especially with the shot clock and given how near we are to the end zone. So I accept full responsibility for that. I need to improve on our end.

I have to get better at this.

The mishandled snap was the third of the three turnovers committed by the Tide, and it brought memories of last season—when Milroe frequently struggled with snaps from former center Seth McLaughlin—for Alabama supporters. Although the season is still early, a worrying trend is developing when rookie center Parker Brailsford lost a fumble in the first week by snapping a ball over Milroe’s head from the shotgun. In Week 2, the duo misfired once more, this time from under center, which led to the second consecutive week’s loss of possession because of a snapping problem.

“Well, you know, I’m not putting that all on Parker, that’s for sure,” Chris Kapilovic, the offensive line coach for Alabama, stated. We’ll split the blame because there were some communication problems and it seemed rushed, but it’s always disastrous to make a poor fast decision. However, I don’t think I need to mention anything down there. Everyone is aware of what that implies. We work on it every day and we will keep working on it every day to make sure that everyone is acting appropriately and on the same page.”

This week, the Crimson Tide will play in their first hostile atmosphere at Camp Randall Stadium against Wisconsin. Nevertheless, the two are working hard to make sure they don’t commit a third error in as many weeks.
