After suffering a concussion on Thursday night, former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will speak with former coach Nick Saban on Friday.

“I’ll speak with him today first. I’m still not able to reach him,” Saban said on the Pat McAfee Show. We get together occasionally while I’m down in Florida because I have a house there. engaged in off-season golf. Although Tua is a terrific competitor, I believe that this needs to be a medical decision. It’s important to inform medical professionals about these injuries and concussions because having many concussions is not a favorable indicator.
I believe that Tua, his family, and everyone else should pay attention to the medical data to ensure that playing football will not jeopardize their long-term health. However, I believe that’s a medical choice. That’s not something I think I should guess on. More power to those who are doing it, as I know many of them are. However, that shouldn’t have an impact on the family. That shouldn’t have any bearing on Tua. Doctors should have the final say on all of that.”
Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins’ fifth-round selection in 2020, sustained a concussion during the team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night. In addition to the one he sustained in 2019 at Alabama on the same play he broke his hip in a 38-7 victory over Mississippi State, it was Tagovailoa’s third concussion in the NFL.
“This guy is a great competitor and one thing that he does not know how to do is give up on a play,” Saban said on Friday. “He didn’t go for the ball when he injured his hip at Alabama. The recipient was [Henry] Ruggs.
hit that he is not required to accept. I wished I had removed him from the game because I detested the fact that he was injured. It’s always 20/20 in retrospect.
It’s exactly the same as yesterday night’s play. He might have fallen. His first down had come. However, he’s a tough-minded, competitive guy who tries to lead by example for his team and ends up hurting himself in the process.”
On Friday, a number of well-known former NFL players voiced their opinions, suggesting that Tagovailoa ought to give up playing football.
