Nick Saban Explain major problems facing the Oregon Ducks team in 2024

EUGENE One of Dan Lanning’s mentors offered some insight on Oregon’s early-season problems.

The No. 9 Ducks, who defeated Boise State last week in four different lineups, are thought to have an issue with their offensive line and “haven’t been able to play the kind defense I think you need to play,” according to former Alabama coach Nick Saban.

Although I believe they have some problems on their team, I also believe they will keep improving,” Saban remarked. “There is an issue with their offensive line since it is not very good. The quarterback, who is an exceptionally talented player, is having trouble with it. They simply have too many poor plays to be a formidable squad, but they have produced enough strong plays to be so. I’m referring to offensive tackles for loss, penalties, and getting behind the sticks. You’re now playing the way the opposing team wants you to play, not how you want to. That, in my opinion, has been their problem, and they haven’t been able to play the kind of defense that I believe is necessary.

Boise has a tremendously good back, so they can now run the ball. They also had difficulties putting an end to the run, which is discouraging when it cannot be stopped. Your team is discouraged because they are continuously trailing in the sticks; they get a first down, but then it’s second and four, third and one, and so on. Therefore, playing a team that you are unable to effectively halt the run, as was the case with them in the Boise game, presents a major challenge to managing the game’s tempo.
