On Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin, Jalen Milroe ran for two touchdowns and completed three touchdown passes to lead fourth-ranked Alabama to a 42-10 nonconference victory over Wisconsin, which lost starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke on its first play. Following a third-down scramble, Van Dyke, a redshirt senior transfer from Miami, was wheeled off the field with what seemed to be a right knee injury. Redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke, who started three games in lieu of an injured Tanner Mordecai previous season, took his position. With touchdowns of 31, 26, and 37 yards, Milroe completed 12 of 17 throws for 196 yards. On 14 carries, he also scored a team-high 75 yards in running. Locke gained 125 yards and a touchdown on 13 of 26 attempts completed. Chez Mellusi completed 11 carries for 66 yards. With 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter, explosive freshman Ryan Williams was found by Milroe for a 31-yard scoring pass, putting Alabama ahead 7-3. Using a turnover in the second quarter, the Crimson Tide increased their lead to 14-3. Mellusi gained 21 yards on the run, but stumbled at the tackle, allowing Alabama to recover the ball at the Wisconsin 28. Milroe scored from three yards out after swerving to the right end after seven plays. With 36 seconds remaining in the first half, Wisconsin’s Nathanial Vakos missed a 44-yard field goal attempt, and Milroe only needed two plays to run 73 yards.
