Nick Saban Issued a Strong warning following Rat Poison’ avoidance strategies used by Alabama’s offensive line ahead of Georgia in 2024
Even though the Alabama football offensive line played much better against Wisconsin—which isn’t saying much after a poor performance against South Florida—a healthier group performed well in the team’s 42-10 thumping of the Badgers. Nevertheless, offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic, who used a well-known Nick Saban quote while speaking with reporters on Thursday, wasn’t satisfied.
You’ve heard of Rat Poison around here, don’t you, the minute you start feeling good about yourself? stated Kapilovic. “You have issues. Many of the same individuals who told them they were unworthy are now giving them pats on the back. That is all meaningless.
Until the end of the game, the Alabama offense against USF appeared to be largely sluggish. That was altered against Wisconsin, when the Crimson Tide used a number of high-octane plays to breach the Badger defense.
Quarterback Jalen Milroe had time to perform since he wasn’t under constant pressure, and it showed. Alabama looked significantly more capable overall, amassed 407 yards of total offense, and avoided the penalties that dogged it against USF.
A major factor in the improvement was health. In the season opener, Kadyn Proctor injured his shoulder during pregame warmups. He started the season at left tackle.
Tyler Booker was able to move back to left guard as a result. At right tackle, Elijah Pritchett took over.
“Having those guys is fantastic,” Kapilovic remarked. “We’re nearly at 100% now. We are grateful to a few guys who bravely played through discomfort and injuries. However, getting those five together and having them play together was undoubtedly a positive thing.
And now for the hardest challenge yet for Alabama. Georgia, at No. 1 in the coaches poll and No. 2 in the AP media top 25, is visiting Tuscaloosa following a bye week.
For the Tide, the game serves as a barometer, serving as the first indication of whether Kalen DeBoer’s squad is one of the best in college football. Kapilovic complimented the Bulldogs, highlighting the caliber of UGA’s coaching staff and defensive players.
