**Frustration With SEC Announcers and Their Coverage of Tennessee**

Charissa Thompson speaks out after backlash over 'made up' reports

As a passionate Tennessee fan, it’s hard not to feel frustrated when watching games that feature the Lady Vols, especially when it seems like the SEC announcers on the network have nothing positive to say about the team. It feels like every time Tennessee takes the court, the announcers find a way to criticize or point out the team’s shortcomings, without ever giving the credit or recognition that the Lady Vols deserve. This has led to growing frustration among fans who are tired of hearing the same negative commentary over and over again.

One of the biggest complaints from fans is that the announcers seem to focus primarily on Tennessee’s mistakes or struggles, rather than highlighting the team’s strengths and potential. The Lady Vols are a powerhouse in women’s basketball, with a rich history of success and a long list of accolades. Yet, when they are called to the court, it often feels like the announcers overlook this history and fail to give credit where it’s due. For many, it feels as if the announcers have an almost automatic bias against the team, constantly focusing on what the Lady Vols are doing wrong rather than the skills and talent that got them to the top in the first place.

What makes this particularly upsetting for many fans is the expectation that announcers, especially those covering SEC games, should be objective and balanced. The Southeastern Conference is known for its fierce competition and exceptional athletes, and Tennessee has long been a staple of that tradition. Yet, when the Lady Vols play, it often seems like the announcers are hyper-focused on nitpicking every little mistake, while glossing over the team’s successes. This leads to a feeling of unfair treatment, as if Tennessee is being held to an unfair standard that other teams aren’t subjected to.

The frustration is particularly palpable when it comes to certain announcers who are supposed to have a greater understanding and respect for Tennessee’s program. These are individuals who should be lifting the team up, recognizing the legacy of the Lady Vols, and highlighting the incredible talent on the roster. Instead, it often feels as if they’re more focused on criticizing the players and coaches, as if they’re somehow holding Tennessee to a higher (and often unrealistic) standard.

Fans are not expecting the announcers to ignore flaws or to pretend the team is perfect—after all, every team has areas for improvement. But when the commentary seems to be more about tearing down the team than offering any constructive feedback, it can feel demoralizing. The Lady Vols have faced their share of challenges, but they also have some incredible players who have worked tirelessly to get to the level they’re at. A little more recognition and praise for the team’s hard work and talent would go a long way.

Another source of frustration is the inconsistency in how different teams are covered. It often feels like other SEC teams are given more leeway, with their mistakes or shortcomings being glossed over or quickly forgotten. Meanwhile, when Tennessee makes a mistake, it’s highlighted and repeated, adding to the sense of unfairness.

As Tennessee fans, we’re not asking for the announcers to ignore the team’s mistakes or play favorites. We simply want them to show the same respect and balance they give to other teams in the conference. When the Lady Vols succeed, let’s celebrate it. When they struggle, let’s offer thoughtful and constructive commentary. It’s time for the coverage to reflect the greatness of the Tennessee program and the hard work of the players and coaches who make it all possible. It’s time for the SEC to give the Lady Vols the fair and balanced coverage they deserve.
