Florida Gators men’s basketball head coach Todd Golden has officially signed a two-year contract extension, securing his position through the 2029–30 season. The new deal, announced just a day before the team’s NCAA Tournament opener against Colorado, includes a significant salary increase, elevating his annual compensation to $4.1 million.
Golden’s previous contract, a six-year deal worth $18 million signed in 2022, had him earning $3 million annually, placing him 12th among Southeastern Conference coaches. Under the terms of the new extension, he will receive $3.6 million in the 2024–25 season, with a $200,000 raise each subsequent year. This adjustment aligns his compensation more closely with his performance and the program’s trajectory.
In his second season at Florida, Golden has revitalized the Gators, leading them to a 24–11 record and a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. His strategic use of the transfer portal brought in key players such as point guard Zyon Pullin, scorer Walter Clayton Jr., and big men Tyrese Samuel and Micah Handlogten. These additions, combined with the development of freshmen like Alex Condon, have resulted in Florida’s highest-scoring team in program history, ranking sixth nationally. The team’s success has also been reflected in fan engagement, with six home games sold out during the season.
Golden’s coaching career began at San Francisco, where he compiled a 57–36 record over three seasons. His tenure at Florida has been marked by a commitment to an up-tempo style of play and a focus on player development. The recent contract extension is a testament to his effectiveness and the positive direction in which he is leading the program.
Despite facing personal challenges, including a four-month Title IX investigation that cleared him of all allegations, Golden has maintained his focus on coaching. The university’s decision to extend his contract reflects confidence in his leadership and the program’s future prospects. With the new contract in place, Golden and the Gators look ahead to building on their recent successes and striving for continued excellence in collegiate basketball.
