From: Office of Public Records and NCAA Media Relations
Date: May 18, 2025

After months of legal proceedings and media speculation, the divorce between Purdue men’s basketball head coach Matt Painter and his now-former wife, Kimberly Painter, has been officially finalized. The court-approved settlement reveals extensive details about the division of assets, which includes high-value real estate holdings, luxury vehicles, and a substantial financial payout.

According to court documents obtained through public record, Matt Painter emerges from the divorce with a significant share of the couple’s joint assets. The terms of the agreement grant Painter ownership of four residential properties, collectively valued at over $10 million. These include a primary residence in West Lafayette, Indiana, a lakefront estate in northern Michigan, a luxury condominium in downtown Indianapolis, and a vacation property located in Naples, Florida.

In addition to the real estate holdings, Painter will retain a seven-figure cash payout, confirmed by legal sources familiar with the matter to be in excess of $3 million. This payout is structured over a five-year period but front-loaded to ensure liquidity for ongoing personal and professional commitments. While the settlement avoids spousal support or alimony, the financial terms reflect a high-profile lifestyle consistent with Painter’s earnings as a top-tier NCAA head coach, estimated at more than $4 million annually with incentives.

The settlement also details the division of luxury vehicles, with Painter receiving multiple high-end automobiles. Chief among them is a 2024 Maybach S-Class sedan, valued at approximately $500,000, a custom-order vehicle known for its bespoke craftsmanship and ultra-luxury features. In addition, Painter retains ownership of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, estimated at $70,000, which has reportedly been outfitted for cross-country travel and personal use. Several other vehicles, including a Range Rover and a classic convertible, were also awarded to him in the settlement.

Kimberly Painter, while not retaining any of the aforementioned properties or vehicles, will receive a separate real estate property in southern Indiana and a private cash settlement, the details of which have been sealed at her request. Both parties have agreed to maintain privacy regarding the specific reasons for the divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and a mutual desire to move forward independently.

A joint statement released by their representatives reads:

“Matt and Kimberly Painter have reached a respectful and amicable resolution to their marriage. They remain grateful for their years together and ask for privacy as they enter this new chapter of their lives.”

For Matt Painter, the resolution of the divorce allows him to fully refocus on his role with the Purdue Boilermakers, who are preparing for another nationally anticipated season. Despite the personal challenges, sources close to the program indicate that his leadership and commitment remain fully intact.

This high-profile divorce is another reminder of how the personal lives of public figures often intersect with their professional trajectories. Painter’s next chapter — both on the court and off — begins now.
