Scope & Enhancements
Student-Athlete Development Center
A three-level expansion north of Mackey includes sports medicine, strength and physiological training areas that are three to four times larger than before, along with a full-size practice court and breakout shooting zones . This will streamline athlete routines by uniting training, therapy, and academics under one roof.
Locker Rooms & John Wooden Club
The men’s and women’s locker rooms (11,000 ft²) and the 3,000 ft² Wooden Club are being completely modernized, featuring oversized lockers, lounges, recovery pods, nutrition stations, and new “Hype Tunnel” LED entrance corridors . These additions aim to enrich recruitment efforts and elevate game-day excitement.
Fan Experience & Venue Enhancements
The fan experience continues to advance with doubled concourse widths, quadrupled concession points of sale, tripled women’s and 35% more men’s restrooms, and sixfold accessible seating . Enhanced lower-bowl premium seating—including club, loge, and courtside options—will offer elevated viewing and comfort.
Technology & Accessibility Upgrades
Cutting-edge LED displays, smart digital menu systems, improved lighting, sound, and enhanced ADA-compliant seating and entries are integrated seamlessly into Mackey’s historic design .

Student-Athlete Benefits
Expanded recovery and training amenities—including hydrotherapy, neuro-performance labs, and recovery areas—reduce reliance on off-site facilities, supporting student well-being and athletic readiness .
Enhanced Fan Experience
By easing foot traffic and expanding premium options, the new design aims to strengthen Mackey’s reputation as one of college basketball’s most electric venues .
Preserving Tradition
Head Coach Matt Painter remarked, “One of the best aspects of this renovation is that the integrity of the arena will remain the same,” emphasizing that key elements like Keady Court, the domed roof, and student energy will remain untouched .
