Heartbreaking: National Weather Service confirmed 105 death as debris and mud cover homes on Christmas Day

Boyle Heights experienced an EF-0 tornado on Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service.
Structures close to S. Lorena Street and Whittier Blvd. have minor damage.
The news that a tornado had raced through a crowded Los Angeles neighborhood still stunned many.
What they’re saying: “It came north from the south and hit the smoke shop sign, according to Ronald Arevelo.” “It spiraled and just directly hit the tiny glass window panes and all the glass shattered and all the debris went inside.”
He claims that Orlando Arevelo, his father, owns and runs a restaurant on S. Lorena St. close to Whittier Blvd. Ronald claims that video of the tornado’s passage was taken by the restaurant’s security camera on Thursday morning.
You can see debris flying through store windows in the video.
Dr. Ariel Cohen of the National Weather Service stated, “We do get these weak brief tornadoes in the LA area, and you need to take them seriously.”
A number of residences and businesses were assessed by the National Weather Service, Mayor Karen Bass, the fire department, and disaster management staff.
The NWS said they concluded an EF-0 had struck based in part on damage to a power pole and damaged roofs and signs. They reported that the tornado’s winds were 80 mph.
“In this kind of environment, many different storm cells have the same signature and very few if any produce tornadoes, this one happened to,” stated Dr. Cohen.
According to the National Weather Service, they refrained from issuing a tornado warning in this instance due to the possibility of “significant alert fatigue.”
“We really reserve these warnings that cause the wireless emergency alerts to be for the most life-threatening situations,” Dr. Cohen stated.
The tornado on Thursday, according to Mayor Bass, is a warning to be prepared for the unexpected.
