The Tennessee Vols’ five-star freshman major loves an incredible block against Kentucky, according to ESPN.
Fans of the Tennessee Volunteers have been pleading for Josh Heupel to find a way to increase the involvement of 5-star freshman Mike Matthews for some time now. Despite being one of the best wideouts in the nation when he moved to Knoxville, he hasn’t found his groove.
Matthews is finding other ways to contribute to this team even though he hasn’t made many plays catching the ball this season. Do you think he won’t put on his hard hat and start blocking? No way.
A video of Matthews completely dominating a Wildcats defensive back during last Saturday night’s victory against Kentucky went viral. The Kentucky player was completely overpowered by Matthews, who leveled him to the ground. With good reason, ESPN chose to show him how much they loved this play.
To remind the rest of the squad of the kind of impact solid blocking like this can have on an offense, we sincerely hope Heupel and his staff show this to them multiple times. Even if Matthews hasn’t fully figured out how to use the aerial attack, as we previously discussed, he still gives it his best on the field.
Matthews is playing with a great deal of passion and fire, even though he might be pouting on the sidelines since he isn’t receiving enough targets. Fans of the Vols must adore this mindset of his. Matthews will undoubtedly have a significant influence on catching the pigskin in the future. But for the time being, he’s more than willing to handle the grunt work.
