EDITOR REJECTS NEWS ABOUT STADIUM: “In this game of chess, we are not the pawns”.

The Cleveland Browns made an announcement on Thursday about their intentions for a new stadium. The statement acknowledged that the Browns have started looking into potential stadium options at several additional locations in Northeast Ohio, but it also reiterated that the team is currently trying to siphon off millions of dollars from the city of Cleveland to pay for stadium renovations. The statement also said that readers of the local Cleveland real estate blog NEOtrans wouldn’t be surprised by the Browns’ sudden admission that they are looking for sites for a possible new stadium.

This is due to NEOtrans’s announcement earlier in the day that the group and the landowners are almost finished purchasing 176 hectares of land near Brook Park. However, Brown’s statement was probably missed by Clevelanders who rely on the city and its major newspaper, The Plain Dealer, to stay up to date on local affairs, as the paper did not run reports regarding a potential Brook Park purchase before or after the team’s comment.

While the takeover of a major newspaper by a small local blog is not very noteworthy, The Plain Dealer and reporter Chris Quinn chose to cover the ER story, thus this case garnered extra attention. In a lengthy and peculiar piece titled “Why didn’t we run the Browns Stadium?” that was published yesterday.
