Chiefs players are shown in the Super Bowl 58 mic’d up portion praising the 49ers’ OT decision.

When the NFL releases all of the game’s film, it’s one of the best moments of any Super Bowl, even after the confetti has dropped and the MVP has promised to visit Disney World soon. Including the pivotal occasions when we get to hear the coaches and athletes who are mic’d up as sports history is being written.

While there were certainly memorable moments this year, like the endearing exchange between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift (though, to be honest, things got a little heated when Kelce thanked her for flying halfway across the world), the release of the video may have shed light on the game’s most crucial sequence.

The choice made by Kyle Shanahan to recieve in overtime.

Discussions about Shanahan’s choice have been heated both here and elsewhere. The head coach of the San Francisco 49ers made his decision to receive, as we previously reported this week, based on the data and the thousands and thousands of simulations run at the time the rule change was revealed.

According to the stats, the 49ers had a very minor advantage going into overtime because, as Shanahan himself stated after Super Bowl LVIII, going first provided you the first opportunity to win should the game go to sudden death.
