
Texas’s Austin Following the first round of the NCAA Regionals at the University of Texas Golf Club, Tennessee redshirt senior Bryce Lewis is tied for first individually and the Vols are in third as a team.
The top five teams from the Austin Regional will move on to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at Omni La Salle from May 24-39, following two more rounds of stroke play, which are slated to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
California’s Carlsbad is home to Costa’s Champions Course.
Lewis shot a 4-under 67 on the first round, giving UT its best score to date. The native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, hit 2-under overall and finished his first round with six birdies in total.
With a 2-under 69, Lance Simpson gave Tennessee its second-best opening round performance. After turning around, Simpson shot even par, closing the first nine holes at 2-under. The sophomore redshirt starts round two tied for eleventh place.
To start NCAA Regional play, Jake Hall and Evan Woosley-Reed each shot a pair of 1-under 70s.
The two start the second round tied for 18th.
Bruce Murphy shot 73 on Monday and, going into the second round, is tied for 43rd place.
