Before the Vols’ second game in the Men’s College World Series on Tuesday, Tony Vitello provided an update on the health of Tennessee baseball centerfielder Hunter Ensley.

Omaha, Nebraska — Hunter Ensley, the starting centerfielder for Tennessee baseball in the 2024 Men’s College World Series, is still listed as day-to-day due to a lower body injury, Vols coach Tony Vitello informed the media on Tuesday.

Vitello stated, “He’s definitely better today than he was on Monday.” As has been the case every Monday since Hoover, the guys appreciated having a day off or sort of a recuperation day. Today, he returned to work and was fully engaged in all tasks. He was warned not to go through everything at full speed, but I’m not sure whether he could have. He completed all of our guys’ tasks, perhaps not as thoroughly as he could have.”

Ensley sustained an injury during Tennessee’s 6-1 victory over North

Carolina on Father’s Day to improve to 2-0 in Omaha for the first time in program history. Colby Backus replaced Ensley to begin the fifth inning after Ensley crashed into the centerfield wall of Charles Schwab Field to complete a spectacular running catch.

Kind of busted my leg on the wall a little bit,” Ensley said. “I feel good. Right now, getting recovered. Going to meet with a trainer later. Get recovered up and be back for Wednesday.”

“I’m willing to run into a wall for an out. I’ll take that trade any day.”
