There was a throwback Texas vs. Texas A&M rivalry on the sidelines of the 49ers vs. Detroit Lions NFC game since both head coaches, Aggie Dan Campbell and former Longhorn Kyle Shanahan, have ties to the Lone Star State.
In the NFC Championship Game, the 49ers pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat the Lions 34–31 after trailing by 17 points at the half. With this victory, the team qualified for its ninth Super Bowl participation.
