Another offseason brings forth a new set of topics for Steelers president Art Rooney II to address. Just a year ago,
Rooney was occupied with discussions about the impending departure of Antonio Brown, LeโVeon Bellโs
anticipated exit via free agency, Ben Roethlisbergerโs future, and the teamโs disappointing 2018 season. However,
this winter, following the Steelersโ unexpected 8-8 season marked by competitiveness despite the departures of
Brown and Bell, as well as injuries to key players like Roethlisberger, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and James Conner,
Rooney faces a fresh set of issues as the team navigates through its offseason maneuvers.
In a recent interview with Stan Savran on Steelers Nation Radio, Rooney delved into various topics, including his
thoughts on the Steelersโ potential Hall of Fame inductees for 2020 and the likelihood of the team appearing on
โHard Knocksโ for the first time.
Regarding the Steelersโ chances for Hall of Fame induction in 2020, Rooney discussed the prospects of former
Steelers coach Bill Cowher, who has already been announced as one of the two head coaches to be inducted this
year. Additionally, he touched upon the candidacy of two modern-era players, safety Troy Polamalu and lineman
Alan Faneca, along with senior player Donnie Shell. While Rooney expressed doubts about Fanecaโs likelihood of
induction this year, he expressed optimism regarding Polamalu and Shellโs prospects of being enshrined in
Canton later this year.
